Bernard Garrah wants to help everyone he knows live the best life they can. As a financial planner with Skylight Financial Group, Bernard has made it his mission to help his clients plan appropriately so they can live the life they choose and look forward to a secure financial future. His favorite part of his job is being able to hear what his clients want to accomplish, problem-solve, present solutions, and see the results. In fact, when Bernard helped friends plan how they would save for their wedding, the value of what he could provide became clear. “I want people to be better off for working with me,” Bernard likes to say.
One of Bernard’s greatest strengths as a financial planner is his ability to “quarterback” for his clients, coordinating planning efforts and tactics with attorneys, CPAs, debt managers, and other advisors. Bernard makes sure all the advisors are communicating with each other and that everyone is working together as a team to see the client’s total financial picture. His services are especially valuable to corporate executives and high-income individuals as he has a thorough understanding of corporate benefit plans and many years of experience working with professionals at large, national companies.
Bernard graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Finance and began his career as a financial advisor. In 2001, he chose to affiliate with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) because the company’s long history and good reputation fit well with his own high standards for servicing his clients. Bernard quickly became one of the company’s top advisors, qualifying for MassMutual’s Leader’s Club, Blue Chip Circle, Top of Council and Blue Chip Council membership, as well as the industry’s prestigious Million Dollar Round Table 2001 to 2013. At his agency, Skylight Financial Group, Bernard developed a financial planning practice and has achieved a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Associate of the Year award nearly every year for the past 11 years.
Continuing his financial education is very important to Bernard; he has earned designations as Chartered Financial Consultant (ChfC), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Certified Family Business Specialist (CFBS) and Chartered Special Needs Consultant (ChSNC). Bernard is involved in the industry and is a past president of the Cleveland Society of Financial Services Professionals and a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Cleveland Chapter. He is also a sought-after speaker at agency and industry events.
Bernard is active in his local community as a volunteer with several non-profit organizations including the March of Dimes and Art Therapy Studio and he currently serves on the board of Youth Challenge. Bernard, his wife Lori and their daughter reside in Avon Lake.
